Modern kitchens are placing an equal importance on design, form and function …. and quite rightly so, but we raise this to a whole new level by making the complete concept the most environmentally friendly it can be, at this time.

Milestone Eco Elite is a premium hand made kitchen built by traditional methods using two different door designs. ‘English Heritage’ and ‘American Heritage’. Our choice of three classic timbers: Natural English Ash, American Black Walnut and French Pippy Oak has been made based not just on their important eco credentials ( see below ) but on their ability to look fantastic in whichever combination of doors and worktops you choose.

The Eco Elite kitchen shown here is built using our nationally acclaimed 98% recycled content Eco2 cabinets with all the doors, handles & accessories made from the Ash, the worktops are made from the Black Walnut, and the fantastically organic feature wall unit is built out of Solid Pippy Oak. ( built to order in any of our timbers ) Don’t worry ! ….. normal wall units are available, with feature unit shown here we are just illustrating the sort of thing our craftsman can achieve with the timbers.

Why choose hardwoods for an Eco kitchen when hardwood kitchens are everywhere ?? …. because we’ve done it properly and not before time !! We’ve used genuinely harvested and properly managed timbers.

I feel I should point out that whilst our Eco Elite concept is based around the organic feel of timber throughout, if hardwood is not your preferred choice for worktops, we can offer alternatives. The NEW Eco Cosentino recycled quartz being one of them.

The whole project when installed and finished gives off a certain ‘organic’ comfortable ‘living’ quality that makes your brand new Eco Elite kitchen just feel like a fabulous place to be whether cooking in it or simply chilling out with your friends over a glass of wine.

More about the sustainability of our woods

Even the hand-made handles are made from the branches of the same tree!

English Natural Ash ( Fraximus Excelsior ) All the doors and accessories on our display are solid timber throughout, made from ‘one tree’ and sustainably sourced from the FSC managed Garnons Estate in Herefordshire, UK.

All our kitchens made this way will be genuine English Ash, where possible always made from one tree and we will tell you where the tree came from.

American Black Walnut (Juglans Nigra ) The worktops shown here are made from 40mm thick, PEFC sustainably sourced solid Black Walnut which is harvested from the Appalachian mountains in the Vermont to New Hampshire area on the North Eastern side of the USA. Selected from here because of their growing conditions and colour consistency.

French Pippy Oak ( Quercus Roba ) We’ve used traditional cabinet makers French Oak from the FSC managed forests in and around the Burgundy region of mid eastern France from Besancon in the north to St.Etienne in the south. This source gives us full ‘chain of custody’ paperwork from tree to kitchen.

Technical stuff that lifts Eco Elite above the rest.

Apart from the Eco2 cabinets which form the structure, there is no chipboard or MDF used in any of the other components, everything being made in the solid timber of your choice.

The door and drawer centre panels are solid planks which are split down the centre and matched up edge to edge to create a mirror image. A process normally associated with veneers and known as ‘Bookmatching’ it also adds elegance to any solid timber panel made this way.

The door frame pieces known as 'stiles and rails' are also specially selected to run through from panel to panel giving a continuity effect across all the doors. Needs a bit of thought and planning but looks fabulous when done properly and can be seen on our display.

As a result of this, all the doors etc. are sequence numbered to your own individual plan and must be fitted according to this plan to work successfully.

As you would expect with a kitchen at this level, the modern soft close doors and drawers are fitted as standard. We can also provide a host of internal fittings, pre installed at the factory, to tailor your storage needs to suit your lifestyle.

The whole kitchen is hand finished using organic ‘VOC’ compliant organic hardwax oils for a durable and lasting finish.
No environmentally nasty solvent based lacquers come anywhere near any of our Eco Elite kitchens !
